Folgers Coffee is a brand of ground coffee, instant and pods produced in the United States and sold there, as well as in Asia, Canada and Mexico. It was founded by James Folger II, who arrived from Nantucket Island at age 15 during the California Gold Rush. Atha sold coffee in the California area, but proposed to James Folger II that he open and manage a Folgers coffee plant in Texas. The jingle “The Best Part of Waking Up” has become one of the most recognizable advertising pieces in American culture.
It was first debuted in 1984 and has since been adapted to country, gospel, jazz, R&B, folk, celtic and a cappella versions. The five-story brick Folger Coffee Company building at 101 Howard in San Francisco, California, is the former headquarters of Folgers. The colors of the brand established by Folger, included in its logo, were traditionally a moderately dark red background with white lettering. In 1985, Folgers released a TV ad titled “Peter Comes Home For Christmas” which featured the jingle and ran on television for more than a decade.
A more recent commercial from PSOne de Publicis got rid of the traditional look to show a fresher attitude. The clip begins with a woman looking for Folgers in the grocery store while the jingle plays in the background. Folgers wanted to connect with a new generation of coffee drinkers who see coffee differently from coffee lovers before them. Whether it's Folgers or some other brand of coffee, having that energy boost in the morning is and will always be one of my motivators to get out of bed in the morning and it's really the best part of waking up.
